Magnetostrictive Level Transmitters

ABB's patented AccuTrak™ Magnetostrictive Level Transmitters are the only level transmitters in the world to be IEC 61508 certified for operation in SIL2 and SIL3 environments.

These transmitters are used extensively around the world to provide continuous level indication, and transmission of an analog and/or digital signal for monitoring or control. Vibrating Fork Level Switches

Vibrating Fork Level switches utilize a piezoelectric-driven tuning fork that exhibits a large change in resonant frequency when immersed into a liquid or bulk solid process.

A "smart" microprocesso-based electronic unit keeps the sensor in a resonant state as it changes from dry to wet or wet to dry. An important feature of this switch is that its resonant frequency is not significantly affected by coating on the fork until the space between the forks is bridged. Applications include redundant high/low process levels without concern for parameters, such as specific gravity, dielectric constant or mounting position of the sensor.

Magnetic Level Gauge Switches

ABB's magnetic level gauge switches for point level alarm and/or control can mount to a KM26 magnetic level gauge or an LS Series cage level switch.

These switches are completely isolated from the process fluid as they are magnetically activated by a magnet equipped float (KM26) or attraction sleeve (LS Series). The unique magnetic coupling action eliminates seals, diaphragms, springs, and torque tubes common to other level switching alternatives since there is no physical contact with the process fluid. The magnetic coupling also eliminates process connections to the switch; therefore, no isolation valves are required to block off the switch for maintenance. The switch "set point" is easily adjustable without changing any process piping and the result is a more reliable and easier way to maintain level system.

Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitters

The MT series of guided wave radars are the only level transmitters in the world to be IEC 61508 certified for operation in SIL2 and SIL3 environments.

The guided wave radar's self-monitoring capability continually checks for any faults that could cause device failures or false indications. The device features a graphic display incorporated into an all digital electronics module. Using this new format ABB has been able to add waveform screens to the modular electronics along with easy to follow multiple choice setup menus. These menus can be changed to many different languages for easy commissioning throughout the world. Pulses of microwave energy are directed to the product surface using a rigid rod or flexible cable type probe. This assembly has no moving parts and no loss of energy due to beam divergence.

The LevelMaster combines the industry’s most innovative hardware and software to address the unique custody-measurement and operational needs of tank-level management. The LevelMaster provides not only an accurate level gauge but also an accurate measurement of the oil and water interface, for trustworthy oil sales.

Unlike other level-sensing technologies, LevelMaster provides precise levels without having to continuously adjust for changes in the unpredictable properties of storage-tank liquids. LevelMaster floats can measure oil, water, and emulsion levels up to 25 feet (7.6 m) deep, with a standard relative accuracy of 0.1 inch (2.5 mm) or optional high-precision relative accuracy of 0.05 inch (1.25 mm). Floats can be installed to measure only the top surface level (single float) or both surface and interface levels (dual floats). In addition to measuring the liquid level, an RTD measures the liquid temperature at the load line.
